LoanCare-Another Mortgage Company Falls Prey to Hackers
According to a filing from the Maine Attorney General, the mortgage company LoanCare suffered a breach on November 19 which was discovered on December 13. LoanCare is a provider of full-service subservicing and interim subservicing to the mortgage industry. According to internal company estimates, LoanCare subservices approximately 1.8 million loans in 50 states, approximating $390 billion in loan balances.
It is estimated that the data for 1.3 million customers may have been breached. The exposure may include names, social security numbers, addresses and loan numbers. The exact reason for the data breach has not been revealed but the company confirmed in its filing that an unauthorized party gained access and took data from its systems.
