Eastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks were affected by a massive internet outage for Brightspeed and Lumen customers that lasted for more than four hours on Friday.
The outages first started cropping up around 10:15 a.m. and while businesses were down until at least around 2 p.m. as the outage affected DSL and fiber services on both residential and commercial accounts. In some parts of North Carolina such as Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, Verizon and Brightspeed users were reportedly affected by the outage throughout the day.
The statewide outage reports included multiple 911 centers being impacted, school and local government phone systems being offline, and pharmacies unable to process prescriptions due to the loss of internet service. Read more about this story on our LinkedIn page
