A plan to align operational cybersecurity priorities for more than 100 federal agencies has been published by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The plan is designed to reduce cybersecurity risk to federal civilian executive branch agencies by laying guidelines concerning five areas: asset management, vulnerability management, defensible architecture, cyber supply chain risk management, and incident response.
Baptized as the FOCAL plan (Federal Civilian Executive Branch or FCEB Operational Cybersecurity Alignment plan), in the initiative, CISA sets out both “broad organizing concepts for federal cybersecurity” and tactical guidance agencies should implement. When announcing the FOCAL plan, CISA stressed that a collective approach to cybersecurity can reduce risk across the entire portfolio of agencies and each agency on an individual basis.
