Reports of outages at Bank of America began shortly after noon Eastern Time on 10/2/24, according to DownDetector, which tracks problems at websites, the internet, and other companies. By 3 p.m., about 5,000 customers at the bank had reported problems to DownDetector. The bank’s helpline account on X was directing customers to an automated link to request help.
The importance of a banking app's availability and accuracy was highlighted by the fact that some customers who were subject to the glitch had a rude shock when their bank accounts at Bank of America showed zero balances.
