The Ministry of Defense in the UK has acknowledged that they have been hit by a breach. The Ministry is working alongside the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to investigate the incident and mitigate potential damage. The sophisticated hacking tools used in the cyberattack have experts alleging that Russian hackers are the ones who have exposed sensitive information of military personnel, civilian staff, and defense contractors.
The stolen data includes email addresses and login credentials for the Defense Gateway portal, a critical online platform British military personnel use. The majority of those whose details are exposed by the hack are affected employees based in the UK, but a number are stationed overseas in countries like Iraq, Qatar, Cyprus, and mainland Europe.
