Cyberattack Disrupts Major Romanian Energy Company

Electrica Group, a leading Romanian energy services company has announced that it is facing an ongoing cyberattack. The company which is publicly listed on the Bucharest and London stock exchanges and provides energy to more than 3.8 million customers in Romania, published a note to investors on Monday warning of a "cyberattack in progress.” There were disruptions to consumers due to “protective measures for internal infrastructure.” The company said that these measures are temporary and are designed to ensure the security of the entire system.

Speculation is rife that the cyberattack is the handiwork of pro-Russian hackers. Last week Romania annulled its presidential election over alleged Russian interference. Electrica’s chief executive Alexandru Chirita has asked consumers to remain vigilant about any suspicious messages received in the company's name and avoid providing personal data through unsecured channels.
