Cyber-attack on International AIDS Vaccine Initiative
International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), a global non-profit working on vaccines for AIDS and HIV, is among the leading organizations for HIV prevention. IAVI has headquarters in New York, and operational staff in seven countries, spanning four continents.
In a breach notification letter submitted to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs, IAVI stated that the sensitive data of some individuals may have been stolen in a cyber-attack. The attackers accessed the company‘s network and managed to stay undetected for at least four days. After the attack, IAVI hired an independent cybersecurity vendor to investigate the breach who concluded that certain human resources data may have been breached in the hack.
