Data Breach at Billion-Dollar MA Bank

Massachusetts-based Reading Cooperative Bank, with $1.2 billion in assets, disclosed in a filing with the Maine Attorney General that it has been subject to a phishing attack affecting the personal data of 24,041 customers. The incident is believed to have occurred between August 8th of 2024 and January 31st of 2025.

A phishing email originating from a known sender at another organization with whom the bank conducts business was clicked on by a Reading Cooperative Bank employee which led to the breach.
