Reddit, one of the world's most visited websites, experienced a major outage late last night into early this morning, affecting tens of thousands of users globally. Initially impacting primarily the UK, the disruption quickly spread, with over 16,000 reports of issues across major U.S. cities as well. The peak of the outage occurred around midnight UK time, with thousands of simultaneous reports. The majority of problems were related to Reddit’s mobile app, accounting for roughly 75% of complaints, while other issues involved reading or posting comments and accessing the website itself.
Frustrated users took to other social platforms like X to express confusion and anger, with many fearing their accounts had been banned before realizing the service itself was down. Posts ranged from humorous laments about missing online communities to broader concerns about the internet’s resilience. Reddit, founded in 2005, has grown into a major hub for content sharing and discussion, particularly among U.S. users, who make up over half of its traffic.

Comprehensive monitoring across both layers enables faster root cause analysis, minimizes downtime, and enhances user experience. In today’s interconnected digital environment, businesses must treat performance holistically - ensuring visibility from the network backbone to the end-user application - to maintain trust and reliability.
