TSB Experiences Major Outage in Online Banking Services
TSB, a large British bank based in Edinburgh, Scotland, has experienced a major outage with its online and mobile banking services, leaving customers unable to view their account balances or conduct transactions. Users reported a range of error messages and long periods of downtime, especially problematic as the disruption occurredduring a time of high financial activity for many. TSB acknowledged the issue on its status page and social media, apologizing for the inconvenience and assuring customers that teams were working to resolve it. The outage persisted for several hours. TSB serves approximately five million customers and manages £35 billion in deposits. Historically merged with Lloyds, the bank became independent post-2008 financial crisis and was later acquired by Banco Sabadell. A sale to Spanish bank Santander is currently pending.
Incidents like this underscore the critical need for proactive network performance management. Leveraging network traffic analysis and deep packet inspection (DPI) with a platform like NIKSUN enables IT teams to monitor, diagnose, and respond to disruptions in real time. DPI provides granular visibility into data flows, helping identify the exact source of delays, application failures, or security anomalies. By pinpointing issues at their root cause, organizations can significantly reduce downtime, maintain customer trust, and avoid reputational and financial damage. In today's digital-first banking environment, robust network intelligence isn't just a technical advantage - it's a business imperative. Read more about this story on our LinkedIn page
