Los Alamos County officials are investigating a widespread internet and cellular outage affecting Los Alamos and White Rock. The cause, source, and extent of the disruption are currently unknown. Emergency services have been impacted with 9-1-1 calls forced to be rerouted to Santa Fe dispatchers to ensure continued emergency response. Residents are advised to continue dialing 9-1-1 in emergencies, as calls will still connect through the rerouting system. In addition, residents experiencing connectivity issues are encouraged to reach out to their respective service providers for assistance and updates. County officials will continue to release information through AM 1610 and media bulletins as it becomes available.
This incident underscores the critical importance of end-to-end network monitoring and visibility across all layers (L2–L7) for government agencies, ISPs, and other essential organizations. Implementing deep packet inspection (DPI) as part of a comprehensive monitoring platform like NIKSUN enables teams to detect anomalies in real time, identify the exact root cause of service disruptions, and take immediate corrective actions. Only with such complete visibility can organizations drastically reduce Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR), ensuring rapid restoration of critical services and maintaining public safety during unforeseen network outages.
