Thomson Reuters has reported a cybersecurity incident involving C-Track, its case management platform used by courts and justice systems. The incident affected court systems across 11 U.S. states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada, including Alabama, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, New Hampshire, Wyoming, and several Ontario courts. Thomson Reuters said an unauthorized party accessed certain C-Track files in March, including court records containing names and personal information.
The risk is serious because court case management systems sit at the center of highly sensitive legal, personal, procedural, and government information. Even when operations are not disrupted, exposed court records can create privacy, legal, reputational, and public-trust concerns across many jurisdictions at once.
