Iranian-backed Hacker Group Attacks PA Municipal Water Authority

The Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa, PA said on Saturday that one of their booster stations had been hacked by an Iranian-backed cyber group known as Cyber Av3ngers. On their social media X page, Cyber Av3ngers claim that they have taken responsibility for several attacks worldwide, including ten water treatment stations in Israel as of October 30, 2023.

The station that was hacked uses a system called Unitronics, which has software that is Israeli owned. An alarm went off as soon as the hack had occurred, and the system has since been disabled.

Members of the PA State Police were called to the booster station on Saturday to begin a criminal investigation. Read more about this story on our LinkedIn page
